How are bulldozers transported?
Small and mid-size dozers usually ride on a step deck or RGN, while large crawlers move on multi-axle RGNs or lowboys. The blade is often the widest part of the machine: if it pushes the load past 8 ft 6 in wide, taking it off can lower the permit level. Mining-class dozers such as the Cat D11 move in pieces under superload permits.

The blade decides the width
On most dozers the blade is the widest part. A Cat D6 is 8 ft 10 in wide across its tracks but 10 ft 10 in with the blade, and a D8 grows from 9 ft 2 in to 13 ft 3 in. Taking the blade off can shrink the width permit, or avoid the escort it would trigger, so we ask about it before we price.
Weight climbs fast with size: a Cat D5 is about 37,400 lbs and a D8 about 76,100 lbs, while a D11 at 134,755 lbs ships with its blade, ripper, cab and tracks on separate loads. We book carriers with the right step deck or RGN and coordinate the permits and escorts with them.

Transport sizes from Caterpillar, Komatsu and John Deere. Widths are across the tracks without the blade, which adds about 2 ft 7 in on a D5 and 6 ft 6 in on a D11.

Cat D3 to D5, Komatsu D51 and John Deere 450 to 550 P-Tier. Several move at legal size on a step deck once the blade is off; the D5 is borderline on weight with a light truck.
Mid-Size Dozers (D6 to D7 class)
Cat D6, Komatsu D61 and John Deere 750 P-Tier, around 40,000 lbs, on an RGN or step deck; with the blade on they are over 10 ft wide.
Large Dozers (D8 to D10 class)
Cat D8 to D10, Komatsu D155 and John Deere 950 P-Tier, from about 65,000 to 112,000 lbs, which travel on multi-axle RGNs under width and overweight permits.
Mining Dozers (D11 class)
The Cat D11 is 134,755 lbs and 14 ft 4 in wide without its blade, so the blade, ripper, cab and tracks travel as separate loads and the base machine needs superload permits.
