RGN Transport

Nationwide RGN Trailer Transport for Heavy Equipment

RGN — removable gooseneck — trailers are the industry standard for moving tracked and wheeled heavy equipment that is too tall or too heavy for a standard step-deck or flatbed. The detachable front section drops to ground level, allowing excavators, bulldozers, cranes, and mining machines to self-load under their own power. Quickway Transports is an FMCSA-licensed broker with access to a nationwide network of certified RGN carriers.

From a standard 55-ton single-drop RGN to 13-axle multi-drop configurations for 300-ton+ loads, we match every shipment to the right trailer. All oversize and overweight permits, pilot cars, and escort coordination are managed end to end. One call covers everything — quote, carrier, permits, and delivery.

Equipment

Equipment We Move on RGN Trailers

construction

Excavators & Track Hoes

Standard and large excavators are the most common RGN loads. The machine drives up the dropped gooseneck ramp and self-loads in minutes, reducing rigging time and cost.

precision_manufacturing

Crawler Cranes

Lattice-boom and telescoping crawler cranes require RGN trailers due to their low ground clearance and extreme weight. We handle disassembly coordination for larger cranes.

terrain

Large Crawler Dozers

D9, D10, D11, and mining-class dozers routinely exceed step-deck height limits. RGN trailers provide the low deck height required for permit-compliant transport.

hardware

Mining & Industrial Equipment

Wheel loaders, motor graders, scrapers, and off-highway trucks often exceed 14 feet in height or 80,000 lbs. Multi-axle RGN configurations handle the heaviest industrial loads.

Industrial Machinery

Large presses, generators, compressors, and process equipment with extreme weight or unconventional dimensions are ideal candidates for RGN transport.

Pipelayers & Draglines

Specialized pipelaying equipment and draglines require custom RGN configurations. We source the right trailer type and manage all permitting for these complex loads.

FAQ

RGN Transport — Common Questions

RGN stands for Removable Gooseneck. The front of the trailer (the gooseneck) detaches and drops to the ground, creating a ramp that allows tracked and wheeled equipment to drive directly onto the trailer deck under its own power. This eliminates the need for cranes or heavy rigging in most cases.
A standard single-drop RGN handles 40,000–55,000 lbs of payload within legal weight limits (80,000 lbs GVW). Multi-axle RGN configurations — 3-axle, 4-axle, and up — can legally carry 100–300+ tons with the appropriate state superload permits.
RGN and lowboy are often used interchangeably in the industry, but technically: a lowboy has a fixed gooseneck and loads from the rear via a detachable tail. An RGN has a removable front gooseneck that drops to grade. RGNs are preferred for self-loading tracked equipment. Both serve similar weight and height ranges.
A step-deck (drop-deck) has two deck levels — an upper deck at standard flatbed height and a lower main deck. It does not have a removable gooseneck. Step-decks are used for equipment and freight that is too tall for a flatbed but not heavy or tall enough to require an RGN. RGNs carry significantly heavier and taller loads.
Usually yes. Most heavy equipment transported on RGN trailers exceeds legal weight limits (80,000 lbs GVW) or width/height thresholds. We handle all oversize and overweight permits for every state on the route, including superload permits for extreme weights.
