That permit covers NYSDOT highways only: the Thruway, New York City streets and Port Authority crossings each need their own permit or approval. Oversize loads move in daylight, Monday to Friday.

Heavy haul and oversize freight in New York
Quickway is based in Riverhead on Long Island, so New York moves start close to home. Equipment leaves Long Island on the Long Island Expressway (I-495), crosses into New York City on the East River and Long Island Sound bridges, and heads upstate on I-87 or west into New Jersey. New York allows 102 in wide on Qualifying and Access Highways; the base width elsewhere is 96 in, and on New York City streets it is 8 ft. Its axle limits are above the federal figures: 22,400 lbs single and 36,000 lbs tandem.
Who issues New York oversize permits?
NYSDOT's Central Permit Office in Albany issues special hauling permits for non-divisible loads through HOOCS (Highway Oversize Overweight Credentialing System). They are valid only on NYSDOT-jurisdiction highways, for five permissible hauling days.
The New York State Thruway needs its own Special Hauling Permit, also ordered through HOOCS. New York City DOT issues a daily over-dimensional permit for each leg into and out of the city with 48 hours lead time, Port Authority crossings need advance approval and a police escort, and Suffolk County roads need a county hauling permit. What do New York oversize and overweight permits cost?

Worked example: a 13 ft wide excavator from Riverhead to a Queens jobsite
The Long Island Expressway leg runs on a $40 NYSDOT permit, and the leg into Queens needs a $35 NYC DOT daily permit, applied for 48 hours ahead. At 13 ft wide the load needs a New York certified escort, riding behind it on the multi-lane expressway, and it moves in daylight on a weekday.

- local_police Over 16 ft wide on two-lane roads, 18 ft or more on four-lane roads, or 100 ft or more long on two-lane roads: three certified escorts.
- local_police Over 16 ft wide, over 160 ft long, 16 ft high or more, or over 200,000 lbs: a police escort as well.

- local_police Port Authority crossings such as the George Washington, Goethals, Outerbridge and Bayonne bridges: a Port Authority Police escort for every oversize vehicle.
What hours can oversize loads move in New York?
- calendar_today Monday to Friday, half an hour before sunrise to half an hour after sunset, in good weather; no Sunday travel.
- calendar_today Saturday until noon only for loads within 12 ft wide, 85 ft long and legal height that keep up with traffic.
- calendar_today Loads 100 ft or longer: no travel 7 to 9 AM or 4 to 6 PM anywhere in the state; in business districts the same curfew starts at 14 ft wide, 90 ft long or 14 ft high.

- calendar_today Holidays: no oversize travel on the holiday, and from noon before a holiday weekend until the morning after it.

Seasonal weight limits in New York
New York has no statewide spring-thaw program. Towns can close their highways to vehicles over 4 tons once signs are posted and a notice is published (VTL 1660), and no permit allows a load past a posted road or bridge limit, so rural upstate pickups get a check of local postings.
